goodbye 2016

Goodbye 2016

Amongst all the political mess, depressing celebrity deaths and increasing xenophobia we’ve seen across the world this year, let’s take a couple of minutes to celebrate some jolly good travel shall we?

goodbye 2016

January started with me being 1 week deep into my one month exploration of Bangladesh. I went there because people told me not to. I wanted to really see what the country was like. In short, it was absolutely amazing! I’ve been so busy, I STILL haven’t finished writing about it all but that will soon be solved. Keep your eyes peeled!

February was about taking some downtime, tweaking the website and eating a ton of awesome food in Kuala Lumpur. My word the street food is good there!

goodbye 2016

March till May was about learning much more about how to travel safely as a woman. I headed to Dali in China to learn Jiu Jitsu for 3 months (!) and I left with some invaluable self defence techniques for women. I’ve been walking down the street confident I can handle myself ever since.

goodbye 2016

June was about seeing just how good things can be on your own doorstep. Being an English lady and never seeing what my neighbours have been up to all these years, it was about time I paid a visit! Edinburgh is stunning and the Scottish Highlands and Isle Of Skye are something else!

I went to Scotland so it was only fair I saw Ireland too! It’s a beautiful country and the Guinness and whisky goes down very nicely too! Here’s how to see the best of Ireland in one week!

goodbye 2016

The Mongol Rally: UK To Mongolia (And Back!)

I still can’t quite believe it but yes, I drove across 21 countries from the UK to Russia via Mongolia (and back) for 3 non-stop crazy freaking months to promote women’s rights. It’s possibly one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. You can find out all the juicy gossip and details about what you need to know for the Mongol Rally here. November was spent recovering in the UK and thinking seriously about how to save money whilst travelling. God I needed a lie down after that.

goodbye 2016

December brought a lovely little trip opportunity thanks to Coca Cola! They invited me along to find out more about their Ekocenters in Vietnam and how they are empowering women to be successful girl bosses. It was incredibly impressive!

UK: Home Sweet Home

December has been about me returning to the UK to get super serious about Teacake Travels. I haven’t lived in the UK for 6 years, so it’s a pretty big deal for me. I’ve informed the Queen that I am now self-employed and run a business: this blog! Learning how to be a travel blogger after teaching English abroad for 5 years is an ongoing process and a very exciting one!

goodbye 2016

I’m working hard to be the lady you think of when you need a strong, feminist, solo, adventurous female in your life and I can’t wait to take on the world in 2017! You’ll be finding me tapping away at the keyboard a lot this year to catch up with adventures you haven’t heard peep of yet! I’ve got some real goodies up my sleeve for you! Ooh they’re good.

India For 2017?!

As usual, as I say goodbye 2016, I’m leaving plans for 2017 open to the cosmos. Saying ‘yes’ to opportunities at the last minute has brought me nothing but success and joy in life, so I intend to carry on as I always have. Nonetheless, there is one trip in 2017 that I am dying to take and that’s a trip to Kerala in India in March! Read on to find out how you can help me make this a reality!

goodbye 2016

Help me get to Kerala India paradise!

For starters I’d take it to Slovenia on my skiing trip where I’m only allowed an eeniminie backpack hand luggage, bring on the layers! Next up Porto with the girls and a roadtrip through Scotland with the guy I’m dating currently to check our travelling together compatibility ;-)

Then after I’ve saved up enough I’m heading to Prague Worldwide TEFL to get my certificate next autumn, and after that…well who knows where life will take me to teach English!! SE Asia or South America is for sure, but I’m letting spontaneous decisions lead me to the exact country!!
