Are you looking for the best Bangkok food stalls? Only have 4 hours to do it? Travel in Thailand has gone and outdone itself. The sun has set and there is an absolute treat in store for you. You can now blitz your way through Bangkok on a nighttime Bangkok Tuk Tuk Food Tour with a local who knows the absolute best and hidden spots. I jumped right on board, got chomping and am going to share all the best Bangkok Food Stalls I found with you!

Get Ready For The Best Bangkok Food Stalls

When you know you’re going to be going on a food ‘I’m-gonna-stuff-my-face’ adventure, you just don’t eat beforehand. I turned up prepared for the best Bangkok food stalls with an empty stomach, ready to munch. I was also slightly drooling from the side of my mouth, with all the amazing street food teasing me down below at the BTS National Stadium stop. Luckily, before I started eating my hand, we jumped in the tuk tuk and were off!

Beep Beep! Tuk Tuk Ahoy!

Munchies on Phetchburi Soi 10

Our first stop was on Phetchburi Soi 10. With no other foreigner in sight, I strolled down this mini highway to food heaven, popping juicy, crispy, tongue-tingling goodness into my mouth whilst hanging out with the locals. I loved every minute of it.

At this hole in the wall with peeling walls and makeshift tables, it was humbly proved that you should never judge the best Bangkok food stalls by their cover. White walls and pristine seating does not equal amazing food: fact. Deep vats of bubbling vegetable goodness wafted out of this unassuming entrance and as my teeth chomped down on the Tofu Crackers here, my tummy was warming up for the fantastic feast ahead.

Back on the street I came across these deep-friend succulent crabs. ‘Pop it in your mouth’ encouraged the Thais. No time to be crabby here: I popped it in and was rewarded with a truly meaty experience. Who needs fish and chips when you’ve got both combined into one with this street snack?!

A couple of super fresh vegetable spring rolls and coconut custards later (oh my you got to get your lips around some coconut custard cake) and we were off again to our next best Bangkok food stalls stop: Saphan Khao Market.

Get your meat and two veg at Saphan Khao Market

Everybody needs to eat their greens and Thailand is no stranger to serving up some of the loveliest, healthiest vegetables on their plates. As we waded through the array of multicolour fruit and vegetable stalls, we came upon the food group that we can all struggle to see as it really is but this is Thai street life and what a scene it was! I can now say that I have seen a pig dismantled and separated with the finest and quickest precision.

Piled up in a truck next to this infamous stall was a whole bunch of pigs. Big pigs. One by one, man power was preparing Bangkok’s pork feasts. It can be hard to see exactly what your food is but I have to give it to these butchers: they got the skills. They cut, sliced and heaved these pigs apart with true expertise. Not everyone’s cup of tea to witness but an unforgettable one for sure.

Pad Thai Time Woohoo!

Our next stop was at the infamous Thip Samai Pad Thai restaurant. Yep, this establishment is no secret whatsoever but that’s because the world NEEDS to know about this legendary place. Think you’ve eaten the best Pad Thai at so and so place? Nope. This Pad Thai will beat your Pad Thai’s ass, hands down. Make sure you get the Pad Thai in egg version: Pad Thai Haw Kai Goong Sot (ผัดไทห่อไข่กุ้งสด). It’s like nothing I’ve ever tasted before and the long queue coming out of the restaurant speaks for itself. This is possibly the winner out of all the best Bangkok food stalls.

With my belly getting full but plenty of room for more we started to make our way to the river. It was a fantastic feeling to speed through the city at night, getting a taste of the different pockets of unique neighbourhoods in this eclectic city. Did you know that Bangkok has a rich variety of cultures working and living alongside each other? The largest is the Thai-Chinese community. Then there’s the Thai-Indians, Thai-Vietnamese, Mons (an old civilisation from Burma) and the Thai Muslims. When it comes to food, this makes Bangkok a goldmine for street food! Our next stop was all about the Roti!

Roti Mataba

If you want to eat roti, these guys are the experts! If you want to eat roti stuffed with Indian and Thai curries then you’ve got Mataba! This cute hole in the wall is sixty years old and has remained popular throughout. The bread is truly divine and I might just have to come back to Bangkok purely to experience eating this all over again!

Teacake’s Top Places To Stay In Bangkok

Time for a food break: Wat Pho

Wat Pho has a lot going for it. It houses royal ashes, has the largest amount of Buddha images in Thailand, a seriously long Buddha chilling out on his side (46 metres to be exact) and it’s the birthplace of traditional Thai massage. Not bad at all! The extra special bonus with this place is that you can go and walk around it at night. It’s an absolute haven and break from the chaos of the streets and tourists don’t know it’s open this late so skip the crowds and come here at night!

With some mango and sticky rice hanging out of mouth it was time for the next stop! Phew, there is room for more!

Eagle Nest Bar at Sala Arun Hotel

Time to get all fancy ladies and gentleman. There’s an incredibly cool spot where you can sit your increasing waist line down and take a break from all the eating. Luckily, it’s right along the Chao Phraya river opposite Wat Arun! Fantastic! It’s wonderfully atmospheric. Beer and cocktail drinking is strongly recommended.

The last stop: Pak Klong Talat Flower Night Market

Although this beautiful place of endless flowers is open 24 hours a day, it’s a tranquil and fulfilling experience to visit at night after eating your way through the best Bangkok food stalls. Mother Nature is having a ball here. I never knew flowers could be so pink but planet earth has done it! High five world! Thank you Bangkok! Over and out!

  1. This post got me so nostalgic for Thai food! I completely agree with you on those crabs — would take them over fish and chips any day! Never had roti mataba when I lived there. Will DEFINITELY be adding it to my must-eat list when I return!
