Welcome to Day 4 of Teacake’s *FREE* Self Defense Course

It’s time to up the anti.

Today you’re going to learn how to lock an arm, or if necessary, break it.

This move can be used when an attacker is grabbing your chest, your upper clothes, or your throat.

How to do a Standing Arm Lock

If they grab you with their right arm, respond with your right arm first. Make a c-shape with your right hand and secure it over their arm tight, as close to your chest as possible. Then make a c-shape with your left hand, and put that in front of your right hand, on top of the attacker’s arm too.

Make sure to pull the arm straight, step back away from it with your right leg, whilst turning to the right and moving your arms over in a clockwise direction so that arm is locked.

Squeeze tight with your elbow (this is the key to the move) and pull that arm up: their hand will be going down to the floor and their shoulder up to the sky.

(SLOWLY if you’re practicing OK! Talk to your partner continuously to know when to STOP).

In real life, if you continue pulling the arm up, it will break.

Run!

Practice makes perfect

Watch this video a number of times. Practice the move as much as you need to – with the attacker using their right arm.

Once you’ve nailed this…

Let’s try it the other way!

If they grab you with their left arm, respond with your left arm first. Make a c-shape with your left hand and secure it over their arm tight, as close to your chest as possible. Then make a c-shape with your right hand, and put that in front of your left hand, on top of the attacker’s arm too.

Make sure to pull the arm straight, step back away from it with your left leg, whilst turning to the left and moving your arms over in a anti-clockwise direction so that arm is locked.

By the time you’ve nailed this, Move 5 will be ready and waiting for you in your inbox.

It’s all about what to do when you’re on the floor and your attacker is on top of you.

See you in a couple of days!
