Ahoy there cruiser! Are you new to riding the waves of travel? I was too just a couple of months ago, but I've now been bitten by the cruise bug and I'm planning my next trip already. Sometimes an adventurous solo female traveller just needs a full-on nature getaway in the middle of paradise and tranquillity, with lashings of luxury spread all over it…and let’s face it, a glass of wine on top. No matter how much I rough it up mountains or whizz through dirt on my bike, I’m realising that this girl has a limit – and is crying out for some serious TLC.
‘Look! Look over there!’ shouts Cat. ‘It’s right there!’ She’s got her eye on the prize for sure. Her finger is frantically pointing forwards and stabbing at the swaying horizon ahead. My eyes are rolling around in all directions. ‘Where is it?!’ I shout. Clasping the rail, stretching onto my tippy toes, my eyes rapidly scan Saguenay-St. Lawrence’s vast waters in Quebec, Canada. I follow her finger and squint. I had my eyes lasered surely for this very moment!
After choosing your bucketlist destinations, the most difficult thing about solo travelling time and again is not safety, being solitary, loneliness on long journeys or panicking if something goes wrong and you’re isolated. No. The single most difficult thing when you start out solo traveling is meeting new people. After a while, you’ll build up confidence and get chatting to anybody no problem, but in the beginning that first social-anxiety is one of the biggest hurdles to step over.
