January

Here are my top 3 solo female travel destinations for January.

Mexico City, Mexico

Mexico City has something for everyone. Whether you are an art enthusiast, a history buff, a foodie, a party animal or a shopaholic, this is the city for you. It’s got a thriving art scene with many art galleries and street art. There’s mind blowing museums and ruins, a night life scene to suit most tastes, a fantastic food scene to suit most budgets and gourmet restaurants and food stalls serving up some of the best tacos in town.

Gay bars, dive bars, swanky clubs and jazz clubs are part of the fabric too! There’s Artisan markets with fantastic arts and crafts for sale to take your memories home too. Another bonus is that it’s a cheap place to visit. Perfect!

Things to do in Mexico City

  • Visit the Museo Nacional de Antropología (national museum of anthropology), which contains the largest collection of ancient Mexican art in the world.
  • Wander around Chapultepec park, twice the size of Central Park. There’s a castle with art exhibits to visit, plus its vantage point offers fantastic views over the city and park. There are several museums within the park, including the anthropology museum, and a lake where you can rent a row or paddle boat
  • Do a free walking tour around the historic centre, see Zocalo and the Metropolitan Cathedral, Palacio of Bellas Artes, Alameda Central (the oldest municipal park in the city) and the ruins of Templo Mayor among other things
  • Visit the Frida Kahlo museum, where you will be able to see not only some of her works of art, but also of her husband, Diego Rivera
  • Do a local street food tour and make sure to stop at the original El Moro churreria situated in the historic centre for churros and hot chocolate. They are open 24 hours!
  • Take a day trip to Teotihuacan to check out the Aztec Temple of the Sun and Moon, only 40km from Mexico City
  • Check out Diego Rivera’s murals, which can be found in various locations; a must see is his iconic ‘Dream of a Sunday afternoon in Alameda Park’, which is his one and only mural situated in the Diego Rivera Museum. Other locations exhibiting his works are the Palcio Nacional (national palace) and El Palacio De Bellas Artes (palace of fine arts)
  • See Lucha Libre wrestling

Best Flight Deals to Mexico City

I love finding the best flight deals with Skyscanner.

There are many direct flights to Mexico City from several US and European cities. There are lots of internal flights from Mexico City to other major Mexican destinations. Puebla is worth a visit and is easy to reach by bus from Mexico City. Aeromexico, United, Jet Blue and Delta are all good airlines to check out.

Malaga, Spain

Malaga in Spain has completely changed in the last 15 years! It has blossomed into one of the most exciting port cities in Europe, with a thriving foodie, cultural and amazing art scene! This is the birthplace of Picasso and also home to the only other Pompidou Centre in the world (Paris has the original). I believe it is one of the best places for solo female travel.

The adventure day trips from the city are also so worth it. You have to check out the darling town of Ronda and face your fears on the riveting El Caminito del Rey hiking trail.

Things to do in Malaga

Start your morning in the charming old town enjoying all of the amazing architecture then go and see 285 works of Picasso in the Picasso Museum. Make sure to go to the local market for lunch (the wine, cheese and Galician beef is to die for!).

In the afternoon, I recommend going in search of all the groovy street art here, strolling along the promenade and finishing your evening on of the many buzzing restaurants with the locals.

February

Here are my top 3 solo female travel destinations for February.

Sapporo, Japan

Sapporo is a winter wonderland perfect for enjoying all snow-related activities, from snow festivals to winter sports. Or you can relax at an onsen (hot spring) and tuck into the many culinary delights that this northern Japanese city has to offer. Foodie highlights are miso ramen, crab, mutton BBQ and believe it or not, ice cream and all things dairy. This is also the home of Sapporo beer. Tasty!

Things to do in Sapporo

The Sapporo Yuki Matsui (Snow festival) in February is the largest winter festival in Japan with lots of nearby snowboarding and skiing resorts. There is also the Otaru snow light path festival, about an hour or so from Sapporo. Asakikawa winter festival is about 2 hours away. Chill out in an onsen, go ice fishing, visit the Sapporo beer museum and beer garden and go to the top of Mount Moiwa for stunning night views of the city.

Tokyo, Japan

Welcome to a whole new world like nothing you have experienced before. Tokyo in Japan is an absolute delight for solo female travellers and I would come here Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter if I could. There’s a real charm to seeing Japan in the snow – you might just get it in Tokyo.

There’s just so many wonderful new foods to try, the quirkiest shopping districts, endless weird technology and the friendliest locals to help you out (even if they don’t speak a lick of English!).

Things to do in Tokyo

The list is endless! Every neighbourhood has its own personality and charm. I personally recommend visiting the temples, getting lost in the Japanese gardens, visiting the early morning fish markets, trying to make your way across Shibuya crossing, singing karaoke and watching a sumo match. March

Here are my top 3 solo destinations for women in March.

Kochi, Kerala, India

Flanked on one side by the Arabian Sea and on the other by the Western Ghats, Kerala is a land blessed with both natural beauty and a deep and fascinating cultural heritage. Dubbed the Venice of the East by Lord Curzon, Allapuza is a maze of canals and lagoons. A houseboat ride in this watery wonderland is a highlight for any visitor to Kerala.

Read my reviews of Alleppey houseboats here!

Check out the spice and tea plantations in the Western Ghats and do some wildlife spotting at Periyar National Park, which is home to some majestic beasts such as elephants and tigers.

Kerala has some attractive beaches too, like Kovalam and Varkala which are lovely to visit.

Things to do in Kochi in Kerala India

Kochi has a rich cultural heritage. The Chinese, British, Portuguese and Jewish have all left their marks on this port city. Fort Kochi is easily explored by foot, so join a tour or just see where your feet take you. A few highlights you will encounter are the Chinese fishing nets and Church of St Francis, with lots of shopping to be had in between.

Keep your eyes peeled for some fantastic street art. Jew Town and its Pardesi Jewish Synagogue is another must see. Kerala is the centre of Ayurveda, so go get yourself a relaxing massage after a long day walking around in the sun. Follow that with an evening Kathakali performance! It’s a classical dance characterised by unique hand and facial movements and exuberant costumes and makeup.

Xingping China

How about diving right into an Asian adventure and heading for Xingping China? At this time of year, the weather is mild and the days are sunny with temperatures around 20-30°C (68-86°F)! Located in the south of China near Guilin, I feel it’s a gentle enough introduction to China if this is your first time here. Enough tourists come here for you to get by if you know very little Mandarin – and it is not too busy.

Things to do in Xingping China

Xingping is a tranquil playground with the Li River right there to cruise down, plenty of mountains to hike up, and many locals excited to see you. Be brave and eat the food too. It IS delicious!

April

My top 3 destinations for ladies in April are the Yorkshire Dales in the UK, Slovenia and Paris!

Yorkshire Dales, UK

With its stunning scenery of valleys, hills and moors, dotted with lakes, rivers and picturesque market towns, the Yorkshire Dales are the perfect place to unwind. Take a stroll through the villages, get a pint in a cosy pub and explore the historic sites the area has to offer. For the more active types, there are definitely hiking and cycling trails in abundance! My favourite 4 day trek is the Herriot Way.

Things to do in Yorkshire

Visit White Scar Cave and the Stump Cross Caverns. Seek out the Medieval Bolton Castle, from which you can walk to Asygarth falls along the river Ure! Venture into the Wensleydale Creamery for some cheesy goodness, then pop to the Black Sheep Brewery and find out how to make beer: sampling included!

Bolton Abbey is another highlight. Malham Cove is another natural wonder worth a visit. The Ingleton Waterfalls walk is one of the most popular trails. Pendragon castle is also a highlight when you take your trip to the Dales.

Slovenia

Slovenia is the hidden gem of Europe and April is a great time to come and discover THE greenest country in the world. I recommend starting in Ljubljana, which may just become your most favourite capital city ever. It’s perfect for riding a bike around, the funicular views are stunning, the street art is out of this world and the day trips that you can take from here are fairy tale moments! I particularly loved exploring Bela Krajina in the south!

Things to do in Slovenia

Slovenia is an active, healthy and very eco-conscious country, with beautiful towns, villages and endless adventure activities. One day I was following Indiana Jones’ footsteps – exploring the stunning underground Postojna Cave and gawping at Predjama Castle – with its walls literally built into the side of a mountain. The next, I was hanging out with the edgy creative hippies in the city centre, than whitewater rafting down Kolpa River in Bela Krajina.

Paris

If you’re lucky, spring will be in full bloom in April in Paris. Your daily walks to the boulangerie for a cheeky croissant will be filled with fair weather and plenty of Parisiennes! There are two good reasons to avoid Paris after April/May; all the Parisians leave and all the tourists come in. May

My top 3 destinations for May are Pakistan, Quebec in Canada and Aruba!

Lahore and Hunza, Pakistan

If adventure, warm and hospitable people, stunning landscapes, delicious food and impressive historical buildings is what you’re looking for, then look no further than Lahore and the spectacular mountainous region of Hunza, which has some of the best trekking in the world. I trekked in Pakistan for 2 weeks and absolutely loved it.

Read my 2 week itinerary for trekking in Pakistan

Things to do in Lahore before you go to Hunza

Before you head up into the mountains, make sure to explore Lahore first. Go to Lahore Fort and check out the Palace of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), which is situated at the north west corner of the fort. Visit Badshahi mosque and Wazir Khan mosque and walk around the market at Delhi Gate. Not to be missed is the border ceremony at Wahga Gate. Make sure to brush up on your Pakistani history at the Lahore Museum too!

Things to do in Quebec City

June

My three favourite travel destinations for women in June are Trentino in Italy, Edinburgh in Scotland and Bologna in Italy.

Trentino, Italy

Trento is a gorgeous northern Italian town, with architecture from both Medieval and Renaissance periods of history. From here you can enjoy the many hikes that the Dolomites have to offer. I spent 5 days hiking in the Brenta Dolomies and had the opportunity to experience some of the most amazing peaks in the snow in June.

Read my Hiking in the Dolomites post here

Things to do in Trentino Italy

Visit Castello del Buonconsiglio and Torre Aquila, take a stroll around Piazza del Duomo where you can admire the Neptune Fountain and of course the Duomo (cathedral)  it. In the square you will also find the Torre Grande and Palazzo Pretorio, which houses a fantastic museum.

Walk down Via Belenzani and admire historical buildings the walls of which are covered in beautiful frescos dating back to the 15th and 16th centuries. Check out the ancient Roman city of Tridentum; the ruins of which lie under the city of Trento. And of course, go on an exhilarating hike in the Dolomites! Psst, yes there’s Lake Garda but Molveno Lake is an absolute gem too.

Bologna Italy

Bologna is a great solo female travel destination because it isn’t touristy and doesn’t really have any sketchy areas. Bologna is the perfect place for a taste of Italy without going over budget or over touristy. Early June in Bologna hosts great weather, and you can never go wrong with an Italian summer! The food in Bologna is also delizioso!

July

Reaching the top of my list for 2023 in July are Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa in Sri Lanka, Portland Oregon and Sydney Australia.

Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka

The port town of Trincomalee, situated on South Asia’s deepest natural harbour, is the perfect starting point for exploring the many attractions this part of Sri Lanka has to offer. While a lot of the country is still feeling the effects of the monsoon, July is dry season on the east coast, so it’s the perfect time to visit.

Sri Lanka is a must for any wildlife enthusiast. Head to the gorgeous beaches of Nilaveli and Uppaveli, just north of Trinco, where you can go snorkelling at Pigeon island. Or arrange a trip to go and see dolphins and the majestic beast of the ocean, the blue whale. Summer is its migration season and its path happens to go right past this part of Sri Lanka.

Trinco is within easy reach of the majestic ruins at Polonnaruwa, which is the site of the second capital of Sri Lanka after its original capital Anurhadapura was destroyed in 993. You can easily arrange a tuk tuk tour of the ruins, or if you are feeling energetic, rent a bike and cycle round.

Near Polonnaruwa there are several national parks where you can do a safari, spot some majestic elephants and other wildlife. Kaudulla and Minneriya are just two of the several parks in the area. Also reachable from here is Sigiriya Ancient Rock Fortress; the ruins of an ancient palace situated on the top of a 200 meter high rock. From the top you can see stunning views of the surrounding area.

Things to do in Trincomalee and Polonnaruwa, Sri Lanka

Whale watching around Trinco and Nilaveli, visiting the ruins at Polonnaruwa, going on a safari at one of the national park and visiting Sigiriya Rock are all awesome ideas.

How to get to Trincomalee in Sri Lanka

From Colombo you can get a train which costs around $2. It does take a long time though, around 12 hours. Hiring a driver is quicker and takes around half the time. It’s not too expensive if you share the cost with a couple of other travellers (cost is around $100 for the journey). You can also get to here from Batticaloa, Jaffna and Arugam Bay.

Check routes and find tickets with 12 Go Asia here

Portland Oregon, USA

I really wanted to get somewhere on the States onto this list (but believe it or not, I still haven’t been!) so I asked my good friend Sonia what she thought. Here’s what she had to say!…

‘The weather in Oregon is around 8 months of wet and cold, but in Summer, the place turns into a vibrant and exhilarating place to hang out and be cool. There’s still snow on the mountain tops if you want to get up there, but down below the waterfalls are gushing as the snow melts, which means there’s plenty of rafting and tubing fun to be had! The coast is still freezing, but the hearty seafood will keep your belly full and happy.

Portland comes alive with cracking beer festivals, farmers markets, funky music and people whizzing around on their bikes. There’s plenty of parties to be had in cabins too. Happy days!’

August

My top 3 solo female travel destinations for August are Edinburgh in Scotland (yes it’s recommended twice for this year!), Namibia and Buenos Aires, Argentina.

Edinburgh, Scotland

Yes, Edinburgh is also featured this year for one of the June destinations. But in August, there are 5 festivals happening at once in Edinburgh, including the Edinburgh Fringe Festival! The city transforms into a playground full of so many shows, experiences and fantastical moments.

With enough planning, you can make sure that you have your accommodation booked, the shows you want to see reserved and your transport sorted. Ideally, you should start planning around Christmas the year before to make sure your trip is set!

Things to do in Edinburgh in August

There are 5 festivals happening in Edinburgh in August. These are the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, Edinburgh International Festival, The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo, Edinburgh International Book Festival and Edinburgh Art Festival.

Namibia

August is the perfect month to explore Namibia as it’s the dry season! Animals will be gathering around rivers and waterholes, making it more likely for you to spot animals on safaris. Clear skies = excellent star gazing too! Namibia is exhilarating and daring, without being dangerous.

The hostels are very friendly and full of lots of people to meet – and Namibia has a peace and quiet about it that you may not find in other African countries. Who’s ready for a safari?! The only downside is that, being peak season, it will be a bit pricier than other times of the year.

A lot of the budget airlines like Easy Jet and Ryanair fly to Podgorica Airport which is about 1 hour 40 min from Kotor. The closest train station is Bar, about 1 hour 20 drive away. In Bar you can get buses to Kotor.

Cinque Terre Italy

I took a cruise along the Mediterranean Sea with Princess Cruises and discovered this absolute beauty along the way! Yes…it is becoming increasingly popular, but coming early in the morning, or choosing to hike your way through all the villages, will save you from seeing all the tourists at once.

The locals are incredibly sweet here and you’ll feel comfortable as a solo female walking through and exploring all the nooks and crannies of each village. Just look at these colours! Beautiful isn’t it!

Things to do in Cinque Terre

If you have time, make sure to visit all five towns. I personally feel you should hike them, but if that isn’t your idea of fun, taking a boat along the coast past them is a good idea too!

Eat! The bruschetta is to die for here.

Lastly, just get lost – and make sure to do this down below and high up for the best views from both angles.

Dublin Ireland

Travelling alone in Dublin never ends in loneliness, as this city is filled with friendly Irish folk and travelers galore. September in Dublin ensures great weather and avoiding too many tourists too!

Things to do in Dublin

Enjoy friendly faces with a Guinness at Temple Bar, then head over to Phoenix park to explore nature and watch the multitudes of deer. If you’re looking for adventure, take a day trip to the Cliffs of Moher!

October

In October, I recommend travelling to Salzburg in Austria, Skopje in North Macedonia and London in the UK!#

Salzburg, Austria

It goes without saying that Salzburg, the birth city of Mozart, is a mecca for classical music lovers. But this is not the only reason why so many flock to this romantic city on the Salzach river at the foot of the Alps. The Old Town has fine medieval and baroque buildings and museums withits streets filled with buskers and classical performers. The cafes where you can find delicious cakes and coffee are sooo good too. The city hosts over 4000 cultural events a year, so there is always plenty going on.

I discovered Salzburg way back before I was a travel blogger by teaching English here. One of my favourite reasons for being here in October are the Krampus festivals! Krampus is a folklore character who punishes children who have been naughty in the period leading up to Christmas. If Santa is the good guy who rewards you, Krampus is the bad dude who comes out to get you. Watch out if you’re on the streets at this time – you might just find yourself caught up in a Krampus street parade!

Things to do in Salzburg Austria

  • Check out Hohensalzburg Fortress
  • Stroll through the Altstadt (old town)
  • Check out Mozart’s birthplace and Museum
  • Go to Salzburg Cathedral
  • Take a walk along Getreidegasse street, Salzburg’s iconic shopping street
  • St Peter’s Abbey is worth a look!
  • Salzburg has several fantastic squares to walk around, such as Kapitelplatz and Residenzplatz, which is the main square and the one that features in The Sound of Music
  • Go to Mirabelle Palace and Gardens

Skopje, North Macedonia

Skopje is a brilliant introduction to the Balkans and easy to fly into or cross into via the train or bus. It is quite frankly…a little bit weird…but this is why I love it so much. The number of statues here is out of this world – and North Macedonia itself is a beautiful country.

Things to do in North Macedonia

Make the most of your time here by hiking Mount Vodno, going skiing if you’re here in late Winter, and riding a bike around Lake Ohrid (my favourite October activity for here!).

London UK

London is the perfect destination for lady solo travelers new and old. With plenty of hostels, walking tours, and pub crawls, you’re 100% sure to make friends if that’s your goal. Let’s face it, Autumn in London is magical. Crunching leaves, crisp air, and cool but not too cold weather means you’ll be able to enjoy London without your winter coat.

Things to do in London

I love London! There’s so many things to do. Stroll along Portobello Market or take a look in the numerous free museums in the city centre. Make the trip to Harrod’s to peruse (or maybe even partake in!) shopping at its finest. If you crave a getaway, take a day trip to Brighton or Devon and enjoy the beach.

November

Where should a girl travel to in November? It’s gotta be Marrakech in Morocco, Bali in Indonesia or Dhaka in Bangladesh!

Marrakech Morocco

Before I was even a ‘serious’ traveller, I booked a return flight to Marrakech with my school friend for a 5 day holiday back in 2010. We had no idea what we were getting ourselves into. Yes, it was challenging because even though we covered ourselves head to toe we were still looked at a lot, but we didn’t care. We were polite and fully threw ourselves into the experience and had a grand old time. We definitely picked up some haggling skills there too.

Things to do in Marrakech Morocco

  • Visit the souks
  • Stay in a traditional Riad
  • Soak up the atmosphere of Jemaa el Fnaa square and market place
  • Venture through the tanneries
  • Take a trip out to the desert
  • Check out the historic sites, such as the Saadian Tombs, Koutoubia Mosque, Bahia Palace and El Badi Palace
  • If you need to take a break from the hectic pace of activity, head to one of the many delightful gardens and parks dotted around the city – Agdal Gardens, Jardin Majorelle and Menara Gardens are all great choices

Read: Is Morocco safe for solo female travellers?

The heart of the city is Jemaa el Fnaa market. From snake charmers and street performers, to food stalls and everything in between, night and day, there’s plenty to keep you fed and entertained. Wondering around the narrow alleyways of the medina in the old part of Marrakech is a fascinating experience and will give you a taste of what life is like for the inhabitants of this city. The souks are a great place to shop. Whether you are after an intricately woven rug, jewellery, shoes, musical instruments or books, there’s a souk for everyone.

Bali Indonesia

Bali Indonesia is a no-brainer for November. Bali is absolute paradise and for those of you who are trying to escape the cold, it’s perfect! Villas are so cheap to stay in, the food is simply scrummy and healthy and if you’re a surf chick, you’re going to be in heaven!

Check out my guide to Bali Indonesia here

Things to do in Bali

Welcome to paradise. I recommend diving, surfing, hiking Mount Agung, meditating at the temples, watching the sunrises and sunsets and if you’re brave enough, venturing into Monkey Island.

Dhaka Bangladesh

You’re gonna have a real adventure when you set your solo trip base in Dhaka, Bangladesh! This is a trip for a true kick ass adventurer, as you’ll be in the most craziest city in the world. I have honestly never seen or experienced so much chaos in my life. Enjoy!

It’s best to explore Bangladesh from September to March, as the summer season can be a bit stifling and monsoon season can get a bit well…wet.

Things to do in Dhaka

Dhaka is a riveting city to explore, especially at an absolute snail’s pace on a rickshaw. Enjoy the pure beauty and excitement of the Old Quarter and marvel at the architecture embedded within the areas. There are also some excellent day trips to be had from here: I recommend getting yourself to the Sundarbans to spot some tigers!

December

For December, I highly recommend heading to Reykjavik in Iceland, Palawan in the Philippines and New York City in the USA!

Reykjavik, Iceland

Though dark for most of the day, Iceland in December can be quite magical, with the landscape covered in snow and the Christmas season in full swing. Icelandic folk take their festivities and partying quite seriously so you’re in for a jolly old time. This is also one of the best months to hopefully see the Northern Lights. Take a dip in one of Iceland’s many hot springs too. Lush!

Things to do in Reykjavik Iceland

  • See the Northern Lights
  • Take a dip in a hot spring
  • Check out some ice caves and glaciers
  • Explore the Golden Circle, which includes Thingvellir National park, Gullfoss waterfalls and the geysers of the Geysir geothermal area!
  • Go whale watching

Puerto Princesa Palawan Philippines

For the ultimate Christmas getaway, my favourite Asian destination still stands as Palawan island in the Philippines. Yes…El Nido has absolutely skyrocketed in popularity – but there is still so much to see in Puerto Princesa in the south and Coron in the north. The weather is glorious at this time, and the locals are very lovely. This is a great island to come to as a solo female traveller. Enjoy!

  1. Ok, so first, your website is graphically gorgeous. Excellent design! Second, I love lists like this, and am excited that there are some spots here that aren’t typically on solo female travel lists, but are very intriguing. In particular, there are sometimes naysayers about Delhi, but there’s an increasing movement (this article included) to show that solo female India travel can be wonderful!

  2. Ha! I’m actually going to Paris in April. Running the marathon! :D

December in NYC is nice… as long as you have a warm coat, hehe!

  3. Fun list! Any chance you might consider following up with best solo female destinations that don’t involve cities? I’m not a city girl, but love to travel.

  4. I love NYC in December! I used to go during that time every year because NYC at Christmastime is basically the most festive place on earth. I love all the lights, holiday markets and ice skating on the outdoor rinks.

I don’t know that I’d be too keen on traveling in India solo, though. I always hear about safety issues for women there.

  5. LOVE this! I wish I could go to each and every one this year. I took a peek at my birthday month – November and maybe I will have to head to Bangladesh to celebrate. Great calendar for us solo travelers!

  6. Great list and so many wonderful destinations. Apparently I didn’t listen to you and going to Prague in May, lol. Hopefully it won’t be too hot and not real busy yet. Any advice? :) Thank you again for a great list.

  7. This is a great list for not just solo female travelers but solo guys or heck any travelers. I would love to explore Dhaka, Bangladesh in November. That region seemed great for us in December too.
Even though NYC isnt one of my favorite cities, I will say that it is kind of cool during the Christmas season as the stores to get all decked out for the holidays. We went one year to see the famous Rockettes Christmas Show at Radio City Music Hall and see the scene at Rockafeller center and it was all fun.

  8. I’m actually going back to Paris this April! It’s such a beautiful time of year in France. I would love to visit London by myself. I always travel with my kids and so I always feel rushed. It would be great to be able to take my time and see everything that I want. One day!

  9. This is such a great idea! I think they would all be fun destinations even if you aren’t a female ;) Love the shoutouts to Lonely Planet. Their guides are so helpeful

  10. Love your choices of destinations. What especially grabbed my attention was ARUBA!!! Yeah yeah!! Now, that is a place that got my heart pumping! Love the sun and the water!! Thanks for the post and some great ideas :)

  11. I second Prague!! While I have never been there in January (I imagine it must be quite cold!), I did study there for 4 months over the fall and absolutely love it. I guess the benefit is snowy photos and cheaper prices! The warm weather of Aruba is much more my speed though!

  12. Love your list. You have several of our must-gos listed, Bangkok, Dublin. And you’re absolutely right about Bologna in June, although we love it there any time, one of our favorites. Your photo of Piazza Santo Stefano has us wanting to return.

    • Aww thanks Lori. Glad you like the list! There are some definites on here for sure. And there are so many I wanted to recommend. They’re just gonna have to wait till 2019!

  13. This is amazing, I just came back from a weekend in Prague! In January! I have been following your blog for a couple of months but hadn’t seen your list until today! Great minds think alike it seems! I have decided to travel to a new city every month this year, whether it is in the UK (where I live) or further! Thank you for this great list! I’m also ready to tackle on solo travelling this year so can’t wait to plan february’s trip!

    • Elodie your enthusiasm rocks! So excited to hear you chose Prague for January. Nice one babe! Wishing you awesome travels for the rest of the year – you’ve got great goals visiting one city every month. Go get it girl :)

  14. You have listed some great destinations from across the world and while I agree with most of them, I’m a little apprehensive about including Delhi in that list, especially for solo women. It is a tough destination to be travelling all by yourself in, and I feel that even as a local sometimes so I think it’s always best that people know what to expect and prepare for it. No doubt the media has exaggerated the actual situation but there really is some truth to it also :) Having said that, you’ll either love to hate India. And mostly, people love it :)

  15. Where do you recommend going for someone who’s looking to travel in December but not have really cold weather thats nice and inexpensive?

  16. A good article with lot of helpful and problem solving information for all my travelling problems. Also the layout and design of the portal is absolutely outstanding and impressive. Its a huge huge amount of nice and helpful information. Thanks a lot for sharing it with us. Keep it up. Thanks again.

  17. I love your post! I’ve been to Prague this year – absolutely adoring it, and I’m planning a long trip to Malaga and Southern Spain for next year. Your post is a real inspiration.

  18. I’d so recommend Prague, it’s one of my favourite places I’ve ever been to. There was just something so special about , it kind of felt like the whole place was just out of a fairytale or something- especially because I went in winter when they had the winter markets going!

  19. Thanks so much for this inspiring list!
Have you been in Slovenia in April ? Thinking about it, but afraid that it will still be quite cold and rainy…
Any thoughts on arriving in Italy for a week (Roma-bologna) and making my way to Slovenia (for 10-14 days) ?
    :)

    • Hi Rox! Going to Italy first and then Slovenia is the perfect idea. That’s exactly what I did ;) You should be OK in Slovenia in April. It’s just too cool a country to miss – take your raincoat for good measure and you’ll be all good :)

  20. We met in Rishikesh, one of the very best places in India! I have been to quite a few of these places, and it was great to see Bangladesh on the list, as I’m planning to go there next year! Definitely going back to India this autumn to spend some time working on my environmental projects. I love your blog and will keep following it. A recommendation for 2020: Oman! Love it! And if they sort out the Visa issue, Saudi Arabia, where I’m working this year to save the pennies! Jeddah and Abha are my favourite places there.

    • So happy to hear you’re planning to go to Bangladesh. It’s the best :) Will definitely keep Oman in mind. Good luck saving your pennies for the next adventure Miriam :)

  21. Any tips for a first time solo traveler? I’m not sure where to start, and I am a little hesitant for my first trip alone.

    • Hi Rosie. I can completely sympathise. I felt the same when I started! Now you have an idea on where to go, I recommend looking at my ‘Prepare‘ section for a top-notch Packing List and Safety Tips.

If you’re thinking about money and how to save up or fund your travels, my ‘Money‘ section will also really help you out. There’s lots of ideas there on how to save money for travel, how to save money whilst travelling and jobs you can do whilst abroad. I also have lots of travel hacks and more information about travel blogging if you want to get into it. If there is anything you need which you feel is missing, let me know and I’ll start creating more content :)

    • I started with Paris a couple of years ago, but would recommend Italy(Cinque Tierre), was there last year. It’s very safe and with amazing views. As your first solo trip it gives you an idea of what’s it like and would help you get comfortable, before taking on bigger and busier cities.

  22. This is such an inspiring post.
I would love to do more solo travelling in 2019 so thanks for the suggestions.
I have heard a lot of good things about Thailand so I’ll be definitely be doing some more research.
    Thanks for sharing.

  23. I love that you put slovenia on the list i live here and is gorgeous but a lot of people don’t know for this place i love it because one day you can visit sea side go to mountains or in capital city and also Melania Trump the first lady is from here i mean she’s the oposite of Trump Donald because she’s from small country and from small family which was actually very poor if you would like to visit slovenia you can also visit her house where she grow up as a child

  24. I myself am a solo traveler and loved coming across this. A lot of the destinations (Bangladesh), I wouldn’t have considered going alone! I’ll have to get more adventerous ;)
